5.9. Searching for Emails

Learn how to search for emails:

You can use just one option or several options in any combination.

How to search for emails:

  1. Enter a search term in the search field in the menu bar. Use one of the following methods:

    • In order to search in the sender, recipient, subject or in the email text, press Enter.

      Data that contain the search term will be searched for.

    • If contacts match the search term, those contacts will be suggested below the search field. To search for emails that contain one of those contacts as sender or recipient, click on the contact.

    As default, all email folders including their subfolders will be searched.

  2. You can also define in detail the data to be searched. To do so, click the More search options icon in the search field. A window with search options opens.

    • To define the folder to be searched, select an entry in Search in.

      If you select All folders, all folders and subfolders of the internal email account are searched. Note: Depending on the email server, this function might not be available. In this case, only the current folder will be searched, no subfolders.

    • To search in the sender, recipients, subject or email text, enter a search term in the respective input fields.

      To search in the attachments’ file names, enter a search term in the respective input field.

    • To limit the search to emails that have been sent or received within a certain time frame, use After and Before.

    • To limit the search to emails with attachments or a colored label, enable has attachments or Has color flag.

    Click on Search.

    To close the window without starting a search, again click the More search options icon in the search field.

The search results will be displayed in the list view. For each search result, the folder with the found object is displayed.

In order to finish the search, click the Cancel search icon in the search field.
